U.S. demand for hydraulic pumps growing 5% annually

U.S. demand for hydraulic water pumps is expected to grow 5% per year (including price increases) to $7.6 billion in 2007, a significantly greater rate of growth than from 1997 to 2002.
The gains will come from increased shipments and capital investment by most industries that utilize pumps. The introduction of new pumps with better operating performance has also driven revenue growth, although to some extent these pumps have a longer life and improvements to these improvements will limit the demand for replacement parts.
The growth in shipments has also contributed, with an annual growth rate of 4.3% resulting in sales of $7.8 billion in 2007. The use of better-performing materials and rising demand for higher-end products are expected to sustain the gains in dollar terms. However, both the domestic and international markets are subject to competition from foreign producers, which will inhibit growth in unit shipments and prices. Despite competition, and for the vast majority of pump products, imports will grow faster than exports, the United States is still expected to be able to maintain net exports of pumps in 2007.
